Carmen & I moved here from the South Coast of England at the end of February, having decided to up sticks and make a departure from the regular 9 to 5 routine.
Having owned a delicatessen and coffee shop in a small village called Warsash, we were well equipped to work hard for ourselves. ┬áWith a love of food (and great coffee) we felt we could easily handle the life of a guesthouse owner, cooking many breakfasts┬áand being welcoming to our guests. ┬áCarmen used to be a nurse, so making beds is in her DNA, and I have owned businesses for over 20 years so paperwork didn’t put me off.
I have an interest in photography having picked up my first DSLR only a few years ago, and have been working to improve my photographic skills, mainly with landscape photography.
We had been coming to Scotland on holiday for a few years, staying on Loch Rannoch; and day trips involved a lot of driving, mainly over to the West Highlands to view and photograph the amazing scenery. ┬áSo in the summer of 2015 I suggested to Carmen that we could relocate to Scotland in order for me to pursue my photographic hobby. ┬áThe next step was to decide what we would do to earn a living and running a B&B (guesthouse) was the natural choice as it combined having a new home with having a new career!
We began our search for the perfect property later that summer and having found one we thought suited us, we put our home on the market! ┬áScary!! ┬áOnce our house was sold we then proceeded was our purchase of the guesthouse we had found, only for the deal to fall through. ┬áHaving become homeless and by then unemployed we had to find something quickly and upon widening our search to include Fort William, we found Guisachan House which made an immediate and lasting impression on us. ┬áThe next day we saw the owner and stuck a deal! ┬áSo here we are…
