What are the benefits of lock-down? I hear you say.

In these difficult times with the Coronavirus pandemic wreaking devastation around the globe, you may wonder what I am talking about when I come out with such a statement!

The Coronavirus crisis has been a disaster for the whole of society with many families devastated by the loss of loved ones, many well before their time, and it has been a disaster for the global economy.

One area in particular that has been hit the hardest is the tourism industry, with businesses that rely on the summer trade unable to open or having no guests.  And our business has been affected in just the same way.  At this time of the year, we would normally be heaving with guests as would many of the bed & breakfasts, guesthouses and hotels in Fort William.

One of the reasons why Carmen & I moved here four years ago was because we love Scotland, and in particular the Scottish Highlands with its rugged, moody and constantly changing landscape.  The only problem when you’re running a guesthouse is that you don’t go out!

So, herein lies my point about the benefits of lock-down…  we can go out!  Well, not very far due to the restrictions, but when you’re needing your daily exercise what better way to explore the area than on your bike!  So in these few weeks since being closed we’ve probably managed to see more of our local area than we would ever have done if we had been open.

When lock-down is causing so much havoc around the world, you have to look for the little things that make you smile; so whilst we are unable to have guests, at least we get the opportunity to enjoy the Highlands in summer once more!

Stay safe!
