Many people love to visit Scotland, and it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. With its long history, awe inspiring scenery, culture and cuisine.
But often, we hear of people attempting to take all of Scotland in, in just one visit – seeking to maximise their time spent in this beautiful place.
One day in Fort William, two or three in Skye, one in Inverness, a few days in Edinburgh. But in reality, Scotland has a great deal more to offer than you can pack into just a short trip! And indeed, there is a case to be made for choosing to return, and not necessarily at the same time of year.
Whilst culturally, there are certain times when you might want to visit, in order to take in certain events; however, when it comes to the scenery, Scotland is a land of constant change, and in just a few short months the landscape can change almost beyond recognition.
Take Glen Coe for instance. I visited it, for the umpteenth time in March, and climbed to a viewpoint that I had previously visited. The sun was out, and the light was dancing across the glen, highlighting the snow capped peaks. The landscape was at the end of a long winter and the lifeless vegetation of the previous year took on hues of orange, red and yellow.
Skip forward three short months and we are now in the first weeks of summer, and the glen takes on a completely different look, with vibrant greens that pop in the stronger summer light.
Don’t think of Scotland as a once in a lifetime destination, but bookmark it for repeated visits. It’ll be worth it!
