We’ve been living and working at our guesthouse in Fort William for almost five years now.
It’s fair to say that there are one or two hills and mountains in Scotland, especially around where we live!
But there’s one hill I’d never been up, even after five years of looking at it from the dining room just about every morning.
One of the benefits of the Coronavirus pandemic is that as a couple we’ve probably explored more in the last year than all the previous years put together.
So today, I walked to the top (almost) of the hill on the other side of the loch from Fort William. I’m not sure if it has a name at all. The view of Fort William was amazing.
You could see up the Great Glen and Loch Lochy, and south down to Corran and beyond.
You get a real sense of how big Ben Nevis is from there as you’re looking down on the town which is dwarfed by Britain’s tallest mountain.
OK, so the view from here isn’t quite as spectacular as from Ben Nevis, but it’s a different view, and only takes an hour to get to the top!
