About the Owners of Guisachan Guesthouse

Hi there! We’re Carmen & Phill Beale, and we’ve had the joy of owning and running Guisachan Guesthouse since early 2016. We both shared a dream of creating a welcoming space that reflects our love for this region and its culture.

Originally hailing from the beautiful South of England, we made the exciting move to Fort William after completely falling in love with Scotland, especially the breathtaking Highlands with its stunning landscapes and vast open spaces.

Carmen brings her background as a nurse & midwife, having spent many years working in the Health Service, while Phill has enjoyed a variety of careers in IT consultancy, the motor industry, and financial services.

After numerous delightful summer holidays in Scotland at Kinloch Rannoch near Pitlochry, one particular holiday sparked the dream of relocating to this magnificent country, specifically the Highlands. The enchanting landscapes and rich history of the Highlands captivated our hearts every time we visited.

Following an adventurous search for bed & breakfast and guesthouse properties, along with some wild 1,000-mile round trips to check out places, we discovered a property in Spean Bridge (just north of Fort William). We were immediately drawn to the charm of the area and the warmth of the community. This discovery encouraged us to sell our home in England, take the leap from our jobs, and set some solid plans into motion.

The thought of running our own guesthouse felt exhilarating, yet daunting; we knew we had to follow our hearts. However, after another whirlwind journey across the country, we realized that this property wasn’t quite right for us, leading to a fresh search.

It wasn’t long before we found Guisachan Guesthouse in Fort William. From the moment we arrived at this stunning, historic property, we knew we had found our new home.
With a quickly arranged viewing in December 2015, we were thrilled to shake hands with the owner, and just seven weeks later, we were moving in!

That’s when the real fun began! Now, ten years later, the guesthouse is still a “work in progress,” but it’s come such a long way and feels so much more like home.

If you choose to stay at Guisachan Guesthouse soon, we truly hope you enjoy your time with us, no matter the length of your stay. We genuinely appreciate your understanding as we embark on this journey of improvement together. Please be patient with us—things aren’t perfect yet! After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. And as we work hard to enhance your experience, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. We draw on our own vacation experiences to shape what we believe will make your stay comfy and enjoyable.

Hospitality means a lot of things, but what matters most to us is that you feel right at home here. We believe that every guest deserves a personalized experience to make their stay memorable.
