Practical things to note about your stay at Guisachan Guesthouse

Heating

Your room is heated with a radiator (under the window) which is connected to the central heating system.

At one end of the radiator is a Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV) which has a little window displaying the target temperature of the room.  To see the temperature setting briefly press the small button below the display window.

To adjust the target temperature of the room, turn the body of the TRV either anticlockwise or clockwise.

Please do not press and hold in the button.  It will make the TRV go into “install” mode, and will not then work for you.

Cooling

We do not have air-conditioning in the guesthouse.  Fort William is not generally known for its high temperatures in the summer.  You will find a remote control next to the light switch which controls a ceiling fan as well as the light.

We have our own bedroom window open all year round for fresh air, and find that even in the summer we are not bothered by midges as long as we don’t have a light on which will attract them into the room.

Wi-fi

The name of the Wi-fi network is “Guisachan_Guest”.  Our Wi-fi password is displayed at reception, on the wall behind the desk.

There are Wi-fi access points distributed around the building and should provide a good level of coverage in all public areas and rooms.

Water

We have provided you with a freshly filled bottle of tap water to enable you to easily fill kettles, cups and flasks.

The cold water in the shower/bathroom is supplied directly from the mains water supply and is also perfectly drinkable.

The hot water is provided from a single large capacity tank (500L), however the building is quite large and therefore the water has a long way to travel before exiting any showers/taps.  Please allow up to one minute for the hot water to reach your room.

There should be more than enough hot water for everyone, but please be considerate of other guests in your use of hot water, as the tank can take up to 45 minutes to heat from cold.

Noise

I am sure that you would like to have a comfortable and restful time whilst staying at Guisachan Guesthouse.  We politely ask that you have consideration for other guests who will wish to have a similarly restful stay.

We have a zero tolerance approach to noisy and disruptive behaviour.  If we consider that you are causing a disturbance to other guests, you will be asked to leave.

Consumption of Food

Guisachan Guesthouse has a spacious lounge with tables, a large dining room and a large outdoor covered seating area.

We ask that guests do not consume food (other than light snacks such as crisps and sandwiches) in their rooms.

We are more than happy to provide you with plates and cutlery for the consumption of take-away meals, and you are most welcome to eat in the public areas which are far better suited to the consumption of food.

If we find that hot food has been consumed in rooms you may be subject to additional charges for cleaning any spillages/stains.

Smoking/Vaping

Smoking of any substances and vaping is strictly prohibited in the guesthouse.  We have a zero tolerance approach to abuse of this rule.  You will be asked to leave if you are found to be smoking or vaping.

If, after departure, it is found that a guest has been smoking in the room, additional charges will be applied to cover our cleaning.

Parking

Our car park is free for the use of guests for the duration of their stay, or longer if authorised by the owners.

Vehicles that are left in the car park are done so entirely at the risk of the owner/user.  The management cannot accept responsibility for damage to or theft from vehicles left in the car park.

Pets

We do not allow pets to stay in the guesthouse bedrooms.  Pets are allowed in the public areas of the guesthouse only by the express permission of the management.

Departure

Check out time is 10am on the morning of departure.  This allows us adequate time to strip and clean your room for the next guests to arrive, and also to enable us to complete our laundry.

You are welcome to leave your bags with us if you wish to go into the town, to be collected later in the day.  Just ask a member of staff during breakfast.

Upon departure, please return your keys to the reception desk.  Please do not leave them in your room as we do not know if you have checked out if your keys aren’t at reception.

Services & Facilities

Laundry service

If you require a laundry service, this is available if requested before 6pm at £18 per load washed & dried.  It will then be returned to you the following morning.

Drying facilities

We have a fully equipped drying room in our annex, which you are more than welcome to use for any wet gear or any hand-washing you may require drying.  The drying room is equipped with an electrically heated boot drying rack and dehumidifier which is able to dry your things overnight.

We politely request that if you do carry out hand-washing of your clothing that you make use of the drying facilities, rather than the radiator in your room.

Iron

An iron and ironing board are freely available, should you wish to make use of them.  Please ask at reception.

Complementary Leisure Centre access

We have a subscription to our local leisure centre (on Belford Road) which allows up to 2 persons at any time to make use of the facilities.  Please ask us if you wish to make use of the facilities and we will be pleased to provide you with a pass (subject to usage limitations).

Breakfast

Our normal breakfast service begins at 7.30am and last arrival for breakfast is 9am.  Breakfast is provided as a full buffet offering both a hot Scottish breakfast and cold Continental selection.  Breakfast is included in the cost of your room tariff.

If you are leaving too early to take advantage of our normal breakfast service, we will be pleased to provide you with a small packed breakfast to take with you, as long as you inform us of this by 8pm the night before.

If you have any specific dietary requirements, please let us know by 8pm the night before.  We are able to cater for most needs including vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, gluten free & coeliac.

Bar

Guisachan Guesthouse is a licenced guesthouse with a small, but well-stocked bar offering a range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and beverages.

The bar is open until around 10.30pm. Just ring the bell on the bar for service, and either Phill or Carmen will be pleased to help.

Consumption of your own alcohol is permitted, however please don’t ask us for glasses or ice for your own drinks.

We have a zero tolerance approach to noisy and disruptive behaviour.  If we consider that you are causing a nuisance to other guests, you will be asked to leave the guesthouse.
